When i was at the beach on the weekend i noticed there was lots of drift wood on the beach(from king tide). If cleaned well would this be able to be put into a african tank.

Thx butterflyfish

I have used several DW from the beach I will admit it was in the tropics and less chance of polution also higher temps. All I have ever done is just wash and soak them also give them a good stiff brushing.

Have a look in [link=My Profile]http://

On a similar note; I found some nice looking driftwood-like logs in my backyard that have been sitting around for more than two years. They're eucalyptus wood. Would it be dangerous to place them in a aquarium?

I've heard that Eucalyptus is toxic (at least the species around here are), so I wouldn't risk putting it into an aquarium.

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

the thing with driftwood is, its been submerged under water for many years.. it would be easy to take just any neat log from the backyard and stick it in a tank, but the reality is that the wood could contain alot of chemicals, and sap that can be toxic to fish... if i were you i would stick to some normal driftwood.....

i have found some good chunks out by the river i live by, and only after boiling FOREVER and soaking in a bathtub for a week, was i even able to get it to sink!

the whole idea is to make sure you kill whatever does, did, or ever was living in or on that piece of wood.... ive heard of people baking them, but if the piece is small enough, boiling for a period of time should do the trick, should you come across some natural driftwood out there.

butterflyfish, you can boil the wood you found & then give it a good scrub with a brush, or else leave it to soak for alot of time & test the water for any impurities that the wood might have.
