hey everyone..i have a 46 gal aga bowfront tank set up for about 6 months so far...i have a penguin 200 bio wheel filter and aquaclear 200 power filter (both HOB type filters), and a compact flourescent light fixture i bought at my lfs that is the length of my tank and under the hood there are 2 compact bulbs on both ends of the hood (thats about all i can tell u about my lights...the tank is set up to be a freshwater mid - heavily planted tank..so far i have been switching ideas around for about 3 months after the tank cycled and im still not fully happy with the set-up..it has a mix of small fine black gravel and flourite mix and towards the front there is a beach type area on the left and right side of the tank with jus plain ole' play sand from home depot[img src='/images/forums/halo.gif' border=0]..i have a preety good assortment of plants that i have gathered these last 3 months from all my lfs's around here..the list of plants are...:
numerous (6-10) java ferns
2 anubias nana
5 red luwiga (sp?)
4 large amazon swords
3 dwarf hairgrasses
4 mid size crypts
and a partridge in a pear tree..

now i also have 3 random rock piles on the left, middle, and right side of my tank and the rocks are from 3 to 5 inches big and are oval shaped and are jet black..i have java fern coming out of the crevises of the rocks..as u can tell i have tried my best to make this tank look both natural and vibrant..all i need are about twice as many plants and im set!..so my question is..what plants wud u reccomend?..im in dire need to make this tank look good..

ive been adding this plant supplement thing from my lfs i got a few weeks back and i guess its making my plants healthy...my fish stock list is as followed..:
5 golden wonder killies
2 marble hatchets
2 austrailian rainbow fishes
3 albino cories
3 white cloud mountain minnows
3 pencil fish
1 baby marble angelfish
3 harlequin rasboras
1 leftover lemon tetra
4 glass cat fish (suprisingly doing okay!)..
this fish list seems to be doing okay im just being patient and seeing wat my next move is..soo what do u guys think?..i am trying using c02 with that plant system thing piece o crap with the bubble ladder etc i bought at my lfs so i hope that is doing something......i just want a lil assistance and comments on this set up..

oh yea! and pictures will be up tomrow i promise!!..im 16 yrs old btw and i just got a job and my budget is preety high so i can afford a lil more than ussual!..also i have a 55 gallon saltwater tankset up for about 3 yrs. and its jus chilling im thinking about moving the only 2 fish from there into my currently empty 20 gal high and then i could do something with my 55 gal! like oscar fish or something sooo any ideas on THAT situation too would be most appreciated!

i hope someone reads this or atleast part of it..all my tanks are in my room and i'll post pics of them all tomrow when my step dad brings his digi cam back from work!

later everybody...

You certainly have explained it very well but several good photos would certainly help.

Sounds like you have a lot going on in this tank. I would say to try to keep things like your plant and fish list simple. I really think things look better that way. In my 40 gallon set up right now I have 6 types of plants and 5 types of fish. The plants might be upped in number but not by too much. my fish I am thinking of getting rid of a few and adding in a school of something different. For a planted tank it is best to have way more plants (plant mass) and few fish.

Can't wait to see what you have going on. Good luck!

I would stick to a lot of the same plants. I was told when planting my 55g that sticking with a few plant types makes it more appealing. Also, you say you have compact fluorescent lights, but what is the wattage?
Amazon swords get pretty large. I have heard of them out growing 55g tanks.
For plants, I suggest Rotala Indica, it is pink and green. Very pretty. Also Bacopa is a good plant. For a forground plant I would suggest Dwarf Chain Sword. It would help to know the watts of your lighting, so I would know what plants would do better.
You also have lots of fish for that 46g. Are you planning on keeping all of them? The cories, lemon tetra, harlequins, and probably white clouds would all be happier in a group of atleast 6. That would be way too many fish for that tank, not to mention the others. Just a thought....
Give us some pictures and we can suggest more. Keith is an excellent source for aquascaping tips, along with others. All we need is a visual.:%)
