lego buildings in the tank | |
houston Fish Guru You want what when? Posts: 2623 Kudos: 2462 Votes: 337 Registered: 29-Mar-2003 | OH I love the idea Hmmmm, might have to try it out in one of the new tanks All of mine are rather natural looking at this point, maybe a "play tank" for the fry? Oh yeah, I'm gonna have to go get me some legosdon't want to steal little bits toddler legos heidi ps be sure to wash them really well, I'd put them in the bathtub, sink, something, maybe using a colander, and let them rinse really well in hot water...hml Remember when old ones died and new were born And life was changed, disassembled, rearranged We came together, fell apart And broke each other's hearts, Remember when ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~/ "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." illustrae Fish Addict Posts: 820 Kudos: 876 Registered: 04-May-2005 | I've seen similar things done before and it really does look fantastic. The only problem I've ever seen with legos in fishtanks is algae: it loves all the nooks and crannys. For a large castle, I'd get a few otocinclus to keep it clean for you, and if you are looking for fish who would love all of the windows and doors, try sparkling gouramis. Mine love the small cave I have set up in my tank, and they are small enough not to feel too cramped in small spaces. Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean... |

Wingsdlc Fish Guru What is this? Posts: 2332 Kudos: 799 Registered: 18-Jan-2005 | Fish and Legos............does it get much better?? I don't think that they would be much of a problem. The trick will be to make them sink. There is a lot of air trapt inbeween the buggers! Good luck! poisonwaffle Mega Fish Posts: 1397 Kudos: 591 Registered: 11-Feb-2003 | Sounds like a good idea for fry tanks...but a bad idea for cichlid tanks *imagines JD's and GT's ripping lego guys apart and choking on them* Lego box- "Small Parts-Not For Children Under 3" Cichlid owner- "But my cichlids are more than 3 years old!" |

illustrae Fish Addict Posts: 820 Kudos: 876 Registered: 04-May-2005 | I realise there is the dilemma of the sculpture floating because fo trapped air between lego pieces, and at first I thought it was a great suggestion to build the castle underwater to as to avoid the trapped air, but it just occurred to me that the water in between the pieces could very well stagnate and get yucky, possibly harboring dangerous bacterias and such. Therefore, I would weight it down with some rocks or something. Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean... |

monkeyboy Fish Addict Posts: 521 Kudos: 375 Votes: 223 Registered: 10-Apr-2005 | heres a way to solve the water sitting there in between the blocks. take a small dremmel drill or something similar, drill 2-4 or more small holes some where in each lego piece so that water can flow threw while either putting in or taking it out of the tank. givin, this may take a while, but good things sometimes take alot of work. djtj Fish Master Posts: 1764 Kudos: 885 Votes: 49 Registered: 20-Feb-2003 | The drill idea might make the legos hard to put together. It wouldn't fit right if there were lots of tiny holes. I'd build it above water, and use silicone to keep the legos from pulling apart. You can weight the structure down with a ba |

monkeyboy Fish Addict Posts: 521 Kudos: 375 Votes: 223 Registered: 10-Apr-2005 | you'd just drill in the tops and smooth them out. so that there is no burrs or anything sticking off of them. and make sure to drill where it wont conflict with how they attach Fish tanks are an expensive addiction |

justicerulesok Enthusiast Posts: 195 Kudos: 161 Votes: 2 Registered: 27-Jun-2004 | Hello, are there any chemicals on lego that wont come off with a good wash? I ask because I'd like to build a lego castle in my 30g (uk) set up for my guppies to swim in & out of with windows, turrets, gateway for the drawbridge. Admitidly you may now think I'm a bit odd, but in my defence at least I'm asking before trying it. It might need to be weighted down as its quite light. |
