It looks like the tank could develop into some thing to be proud of. Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. greenfootball Fish Addict Posts: 613 Kudos: 360 Votes: 0 Registered: 23-Jul-2001 | dude, my plan is to cover the back with jungle and corkscrew vals, and let the hairgrass and glosso take over the foreground, but so far i guess the vals looks kinda messy, and i think the sword would look really good once its grown in. just gotta keep waiting i guess :#( |

Hoa dude_dude Mega Fish Posts: 957 Kudos: 888 Votes: 72 Registered: 28-Dec-2004 | im am by no means an expert with aquascaping, but... if you have tall dwarfhairgrass with a small glosso in the middle of the hairgrass, the hairgrass is gonna cover it & make your tank look uneven & patchy. just my opinion but I wouldnt know |

greenfootball Fish Addict Posts: 613 Kudos: 360 Votes: 0 Registered: 23-Jul-2001 | hairgrass grows straight up, how would it cover the glosso? also i am planting the hairgrass all behind the glosso, would that still be a problem? Last edited by greenfootball at 30-May-2005 07:42 |

Megil TelZeke Fish Addict Posts: 863 Kudos: 890 Votes: 393 Registered: 21-Jul-2003 | alrite here's my input: You'll probably have die-off on the hairgrass, as it looks like it has been grown immersed. I would definetly work on planting out that glosso, it really doesn't do thatt well in clumps, essentially you'd hve two leaves (one plants) sticking above the substrate. here's a good site telling you how to plant glosso thirdly, you will definetly see competition between the glosso and the hairgrass, they will both try to spread in every direction (trust me i tried this in my 20G), and unless you are constantly (i mean at least biweekly)seperating defining the border between the two, they will run int eac other and eventualy one will kill the other. Usually the hairgrass will survive becuase it will grow taller and overshadow the glosso. and i also think the sword looks out of place. Last edited by Babelfish at 30-May-2005 13:40 |

It's hard to tell without seeing the whole tank, but I believe if you have large schools of fish it's better to have less plants and more black background, this way you appreciate the fish more, but if you have few fish it's probably better to have a more "full" look with plants. Untitled No. 4 Big Fish Posts: 488 Kudos: 452 Votes: 33 Registered: 07-Nov-2004 | As said before, you should really do something about the glosso. In my experience anything whose roots are not in the substrate will die. Divide it to single plants and spread them around the where you want it to grow. Second thing, wait. Give your plants some time to grow and spread out. They will look a bit different than they look now and it will be easier for you to determine which should go where. After all, we would all do things differently (I hate vals, I find them so boring) and you should do whatever pleases you, but if you start moving things from day one your plants will not grow. The only plant that will be difficult to move later on is the sword, so maybe you shoudl move this now. Regardless of the fact that I think you should wait, I would group the eleocharis in the same area as I think it just looks better if it's in one area and not looking like a child who got lost. But my aesthetics are not your aesthetics, so it's entirely up to you. |

greenfootball Fish Addict Posts: 613 Kudos: 360 Votes: 0 Registered: 23-Jul-2001 | yeah i did the glosso already, such a pain, and next day a few were floating on top, i guess i'll keep putting them back till they stay. the sword is moved forward a little bit now so it'll have a little more room to grow, i noticed how much its roots had spread out once in eco-complete, its amazing. |
