I hadn't planned on doing this but I was cleaning one of my 10g tanks and decided to change things. This pic would be the 'before' pic. I switched the background from blue to black, added driftwood from another tank and some rocks, took out the old cave-type-things, moved around the plants.

Any other suggestions or recommendations?

Wow thats a drastic change, it looks a lot more natural and better IMO now. I like how its uncentered, and I like the DW piece too. Good work

Definitely like the changes. I like the DW, but it doesn't completely fit with the new, more natural look. My suggestion is twofold: add some medium and short plant around the front, and use them to play down the DW so it's not "pretty tank ... what's that with the holes?" It's a great accent but as you have it now it's a little too strong of a focus, IMO.
Pretty Cherry barbs, BTW!

Thanks for both replies.

This was done in a big hurry, the entire process including vacuum/water change was maybe 30 minutes. I like the idea of some short plants in front of the DW. The main reason it's uncentered is to hide the filter, the heater is hidden behind plants.

This is my last unplanted tank and I'm actually tossing around the idea of switching to real plants.

That is certainly one very large drastic revovation.

May be a few small plants scattered close to the front yet in small clumps. Just keep to the minium the number of colours and types of artifical plants otherwise it will look a big hotch potch of a mess.

This is the latest pic. I really don't want to get any more plants...I like this red & green look but don't want fake-plant overkill

Ok as it is or more suggestions?

That's a great looking tank, before and after. If you don't mind me asking, what fish do you have in there, and how many of each?

T/A it's a somewhat overstocked tank (sssh don't tell anyone ) with a pair of cherry barbs, pygmy cories, 6 belted barbs and my red female betta. Fortunately I run a Whisper 30 on it, and do water changes 2-3 times a week.

HI Theresa
I love the new look! Heres a suggestion, how about taking a plant, like the one you have that looks sort of like amazon sword, and popping it down inside the DW so the leaves poke out the bottom/ lowest hole! I think that would look great. You could also add some live Java Fern for the same effect.
Maybe you could try it out and see how you like it. I just think that that excellent peice of dw would look great planted!
Very nice tank though!

is it possible to place the wood at an angle or even on its side? i think that would take the focus away from the wood and then you could fill the empty space in with a taller plant
