If you gathered it from the shoreline, probably much much longer. Plus, it depends upon what kind of wood it is. There is not a specific answer. I assume you took the normal precautions with it... ie. scrubbing it, boiling it and leaving it to soak in a tub for a couple of weeks before you put it into your tank... Weigh it down and enjoy it. Hotter water will help it sink faster, but overboiling can lead to it breaking apart more easily. Since it was a wild caught piece of wood I would reccomend boiling it for 20-30 minutes (longer if it's larger) to kill any nasty buggers that might be in it. Then soak in hot water for as long as possible, changing the water frequently. You can add it to the tank even if it's still semi floating, use rocks as you're doing now and it'll sink eventually. Probably anyway. Some wood just doesnt sink. ^_^[hr width='40%'] When angels cry blood, on flowers of evil in bloom and a plea for mercy, where Love is a gun separating me from you" ~ |

Before you place it in your tank, clean it well & maybe boil it aswell. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzaqq/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |
