Im considering getting rid of alot of the sand- and terracing the 55 into 2 or 3 levels, with the highest levels having gravel, and the lowest level having sand.just enought for the dojos to play in.

Ive got tons of sandstone that can be broken up into appropriate sizes to "hold" the gravel/ sand in place.

Has anyone done anything like this? Would it add to much weight to the tank? Its a 55 gal, on metal stand designed to hold a 55 on the top, and 2 10's on the bottom.

Any tips/ hints/ cautions?

Not knowing what your stand looks like it is not 100% safe to say yes but most good stands would have no trouble at all. As for the tank. I would place a solid base then a styrene layer to add extra support to the bottom of the fish tank.

To do a design like that set it up dry outside the tank it is a lot easer this way. You can move the rocks a lot easer without fear of droping them on to the bottom of the tank.

You can terrece from the back to the front, or from end to end as well as from one back corner to the opposite end front corner. All can look very effectice

Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do.
