I'm about ready to start moving things from the 55g to the 90g but I'm really bad at aquascaping plants. Setting up rockwork and driftwood I can do but the 55g tends to just have plants where ever they will grow. I have to be standing there with the piece in my hand and I just can't see what it will look like when the plants are grown. The current driftwood and rock setup in the 55g is sort of a triangle and paint doesn't do shapes at an angle so it wasn't that easy to draw. I might add another larger piece of driftwood but I don't know where yet.

Current plants in the 55g are:
apongeton
2 dwarf lillies(1 brown leaves, 1 red)
1 green wendtii
1 small brown wendtii
1 red wendtii forest with a giant mother plant
Anubias covering the curved driftwood piece
2 clumps of 4 leaf clover
2 crinums(large water onion)
1 giant sword plant and several plantlets
2 sad looking vals left that just won't grow

I'm not too fond of the apongeton but they've kept the back corners filled in. I'd like more grassy type plants such as the vals, dwarf hairgrass(died several times on me), or giant hairgrass(killed that once too). I think my water is too hard for these plants as well as for java moss. I'd love to do a moss wall on the back but java moss has never grown for me. I'm going to get an r/o system next month to help lower my ph from 8.0 closer to 7.0-7.4. Tank has co2, 260w of pc lighting and 80w of NO.
Where would I find the mesh to make a moss wall? I've seen it done on other tanks and I have an idea how but I don't know what mesh they used. Anyone know where I can order xmas moss from? None of the sites seem to have it in stock. Most important where should I stick these plants?[/font]

edit: paint picture is still too small. I'll add it back in when I manage to make it readable.

Hi Sham. www.freshwateraquariumplants.com has christmas moss. I got some last week. It's on a "first come" basis for $6.99, I believe.

How much did you get? That's a pretty cheap price considering other stores so I was wondering if the amount is worth buying. I need alot of it.

Hi Sham. So sorry I haven't replied sooner. I would estimate 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup. I only got one order of it.

I got some of the x-mas moss from FWAP, and while it's a small quantity, it grows quickly compared to java moss, and in 3 months I now have enough to cover two rock caves and a 8 inch piece of driftwood. Just spread it out and tie it carefully, and in a few weeks it will fill in and get very bushy. It's beautiful moss.

Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean...

illustrae,

I went on the site mentioned above and took a look at this marvelous moss. I was very tempted to purchase it right away for my driftwood, nut then hesitated because they say that it is not suited for tanks with a temperature higher than 78F.

Can you second that?

My tank, given the current heat wave here, is about 84 max.

My temp is set at 78 F, and in particularly warm weather it reaches 82 F or so. The moss is doing fine. If anything it slows down a bit in the really warm weather, but it stays green and healthy, and when it cools down the growth will pick up again. It really is gorgeous moss and I've had a lot of success with it.

Another source for this moss that may have more of the quantity you're after is Aquabid.com. I think I saw someone selling large quantities of it in the plants section.

Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean...
