My little Bristle Nose Pleco is just getting his bristles. Ild say hes about 4months old and i have a 6month old female. Neither ild say are full size, however is it too young to breed?

And for when i do. Im not sure in what tank i should use. The Non-planted 10gal tank that just has a dwarf gourami or my main 30 gal highly filtered planted tank (neons, rasboras, black neons, and a rare 6" pleco). the larger tank will be populated with barbs, frogs and m/f dwarf gouramis later.

thanks
Judz

The fish should be 12 to 18 months to have viable spawns. Go with the 10G as a bare bottom tank but include a "breeding cave". The male will tend the eggs. You will need soft water of 5 or 6 dGH with temps of 82 to 84F. Dropping the temp through a water change will help to trigger spawning. Use a sponge filter in the tank to avoid sucking up fry.

I also think that they are quite young & you need to wait another year for them to breed. Try to meet the water conditions that Bob suggested & add a piece of Drift/Bog wood, so they'll be more at home. A sponge filter is a must, so you'll save as much fry as possible & i would use the 10 gal. tank & leave them on their own.

Ancistrus do not really need any spawning triggers, really. If necessary, though, once you get them gravid, change the water like crazy to go for the cold, clean rainy season feel.

Noodles,

So, if necessary, drop the temp through a water change to help trigger spawning?

Like I said, if you really can't get them to spawn, a trigger would be helpful. But really, provided you have a fairly well balanced environment, stuff like that is unecessary.
