Wow! its been a looong time since I posted on here, I havent really had any time or any real dramas that I didn't know how to deal with.

However i found an inch long bristlenose catfish in my canister filter about a month (maybe 2 ago) that suddenly made me realise my bristlenoses had been breeding (subsequently i also noted that the rest of the fry must have been eaten at some stage)

So i have been keeping an eye on what is going on in my tank and realised they had a brood (correct word?) of eggs stashed in one of my logs.

Thismorning i awoke to find a few little nippers scattered across the glass on my tank. I netted as many as i could, and threw them into a breeding trap with some javamoss, but im at a loss as to what to feed the little suckers. I boiled up a few peas for the tank in general thismorning, so i threw one in with the little ones.

Im planning on moving them all into a 2' tank in the next week, so i can not worry about them getting scoffed by any of the other fish in my 4' tank.

Can anyone point me in the right direction food wise??

Thanks.
Chris

well green water, daphnia, BBS, an algae rock, infusiora, crushed flakes, etc... fry will at anything that they can fit into their mouths... even first bits or a lquid fry food would be helpful!
i think i read that a mamber who had cory fry put the mulm out of older tanks into a fry tank to allow the fry to feed on the unused food.

but seeing as i have never had any bottom feeder babies i couldnt tell you...

I have a bunch of live blood worms sitting in a tank out the back so i might just try and cut some small bits of those and chuck them in.

Congrats on the fry! Bristlenose plec fry can be fed on fresh vegetables just like the adults, such as cucumber, zuchinni, and lettuce. Some people recommend blanching the vegetable to soften it up for the fry.

Ahh! oky doke.

I will try chucking in some small bits of blanched lettuce. they seemed to suck up all the blood worms I chucked in with them.

Im still a bit undecided on what im going to do, I already run 4 BNs in my 4' tank, 3 clown loaches and a bunch of tetras and its a bitch to keep clean.

So im thinking the 20+ BN fry i have would make it worse as they grow hey!

I have a spare 2' tank in the roof, i just need to buy another filter for it and i could set it up in the shed next to my other hobbies. Glass bottom with some driftwood is ok for BNs is it not??

Glass bottom is quite all right. Think about selling your babies to members of your local aquarium club or trading to your LFS. I think aquarium club members will give you more cash than your LFS, though, who generally only pay about wholesale. That's what I'm going to do when my bristlenoses decide to breed; I need to give them a cave, though, lol, otherwise they'll never get in the mood.

I have also found BN fry in the Eheim pro11 Canister. Thinking along those lines if they can survive in that I think they could survive in any thing. They possibly received the food via the inlet which was collected before it was eaten.

I would just mix the food in a little tank water and pour it in. I never blanch lettuce I will wash it and that is all I just place a small stone on it to stop it floating around. I know the adults love raw tomato I also use it raw and I use a rubber band to hold it to a small rock.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

Well good and bad news.

The good is, My babies are doing fine. Chewing through a large amount of lettuce every day, aswell as algae tabs.

Bad news is that my femal BN (the mother) passed away about 2 weeks after i removed the baby BNs. Previously (about a week before she went) i lost my little miracle BN that i found in my filter. Nothing to indicate they were sick, they just started hangin around on the glass in the corners, and seemed to lose mobility, then eventualy just stiffened and stopped moving.

I was thinking the smaller baby one could have starved (although i do feed them very regularly) as i had 3x clown loaches, 2 large male BNs and my medium female BN in the 4 ft tank.

I have never had any success when putting clown loaches and bristlenoses in the same tank.
