I have a Bristlenose which has just recently been introduced to a 3' with a CAE. It ofcourse has some driftwood and rocks in which to hide. Anyway the point is that I havent actually seen the little guy yet.

Before this he was in a 2' for a couple of weeks and I never saw him in there either (although it is likely he was merely hiding from the red tail, some mothers need better educating I guess.)

I'm assuming that he obviously needs some time to settle in before he starts showing himself but how long should this take?

btw I don't think the CAE is a problem for him, he's too busy schooling with the comets!

I all depends on his personallity. I had a BN in a 5 foot tank & it always hides on the same Driftwood. A few months ago, i added 2 more BN & the new ones are always swimming aroung & rarely hide. I have alot of hiding places but they prefer to suck on glass & Driftwood, without hiding.

I think it all depends. Heidi took my two most outgoing BNs. I only see the others on occassion during the day. I do believe that they come out mostly at night. It is just their natural behavior.

Yes I did take them but really I only have one that is really active and outgoing the other one I often have to hunt for and seldom see though I know its in there somewhere Really depends on the personality of the little guys...try turning off half the lights on the tank and feeding some algae tablets in the evening, then just sit back (I have a foldy chair that I keep close to the 125, and just be patient, they will come out...you just have to wait and see...best of luck, heidi

EDIT: Check out the clay pot in the background...that is really one of their favorite places to hide, if not there I have discovered, only because of them that my driftwood centerpiece has deep cracks that apparently they can get into

I have no idea how many BNs I have as at one stage they were always breeding. All I can say I always see them at feeding time. With my very heavly planted tank it is not the best place to locate them when ever you want to.

I think in general they are hiders. I have one that will come out at feeding time, regardless of the time of day.

The second now has a cave it lives in. Prior to that it would find the most unusual hiding places. During a water change not long ago I honestly couldn't find the darn thing, thought it had been killed and eaten. This is where I found it:

It would probably take some time for it to get used to the tank, try to peep at night to see if its coming out. I have a bristlenose that never come out during the day time.

I never see my BN. He's always hiding. I have to look at my tank from the side to find him in his favorite spot, hanging behind some plants.

I have 3 BN's in my 115g. They're all different sizes aswell. My two smaller BN's always come out during the day, but my older BN always hides during the day and only comes out during the night. I can always find the older BN in his hiding space, under a rock. I still have no idea how it fits in there.

I have 2 males and a female, and they rarely get around much when the light is on, as is the same 5 of my 6 plecs. Only my Gibbi seems to come out much when the light is on, and only to rest on the glass, rock or log.
