To remove the eggs, you must carefully use a credit card & place them in a container with the same tank water that they are in now & maybe add some Anti-Fungus drops. You can leave the container with the eggs, floating in the tank, but remember to add an airstone or a small sponge filter. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzaqq/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

The will not eat they fry will they?? I think I am quite lucky because my angelfish has not tryed to eat or pick at the eggs yet.She normally picks on everything. As well my african butterflyfish does not come out his hiding spots in the floating plants. Another thing, is it true that corys will mate for life with keeping the same partner?? AngelEel |

Will the slats in the bottom of the holding tank be to big?? Is it even good to have them in a container? I presume thats why everyone says use the fungus product? I am sorry lol I have NEVER had corys breed, this is the first time I have owned Corys and now they are old enough to breed. Angel Eel It was said every fish I have will eat them, will the Ottos eat them as well??????? Last edited by angeleel at 23-Oct-2005 16:45 |

The razor blade/credit card trick is an old one and works well. When transferring eggs, try to ensure that they are NEVER exposed to air when removing them. Exposure to atmospheric air will have a less than delightful effect upon them. A safe fungicide to use is Tetra's FungiStop (the one I use). I've used it with Panda Cory eggs with excellent results, and given how finicky Pandas can be at all stages of life, this is a good sign. ![]() The other fish you mentioned in the main aquarium (Angelfish, the Pantodon buchholzi and the Raphaels) will all eat the fry if you don't remove the eggs. The African Butterfly is a lesser risk than the others (despite the cavernous mouth) because it primarily feeds at the surface, and the Cory fry will stay at the bottom and hide among plant roots/foliage etc. But the Raphaels will chomp on them given half a chance. As for moving to a separate aquarium, if the other aquarium is currently occupied by other fishes, then your best strategy would probably be a fine net divider until the Cory fry are too big to be eaten. Although if the other fishes are Guppies, this might again prove less problematic than the Raphaels, because the guppies usually prefer to eat at the surface if they can. Keep the Guppies well fed (and preferably occupied at the surface with live mosquito larvae) and they should be too full to pay the Cory fry much attention. A big bundle of Java Moss for the Cory fry to hide in will be a good idea too. Once the Cory fry are about 1 cm long, they'll be way too big for Guppies to eat (and too prickly a mouthful), but they're best kept away from the Raphaels until at least 2.5 cm long, and preferably bigger. Oh, Otocinclus might help themselves to the eggs as a caviar supplement to the salad, but they won't eat the fry. They're safe to deploy as an algae eater in a Cory nursery. ![]() |

I can't wait to get more cories so I can hopefully get some fry, I am going to have a ten gallon tank setup waiting in the gararge to keep a stable ecosystem without many fish mabee some otocoulus to keep algae at bay but, I cant wait, I was even thinking of doing a really shallow spicies tank but I dont know if that is a wise thing to do but it sounds fun, either way, I cant wait to be able to afford the hundred dollers it will cost for me to get 6 pandas delevered! they are the absolute cutest! Gawd I sound like a school girl... Wow what are you going to do with the fry after they are viable? I think if I can get several 10 gallon spiecies tanks going with each of the seperate spicies together with mabee a few other safe fish like top feeders till they spawn like killi or something because I would like to get them to spawn also. I am sorry for rambling, I just get so excited watching them there a lot of fun. I think that I will give the fry I raise to everyone I know with tanks so that they all can know the wonder and fun of Cories! |
