It looks like something my LFS labels as a "butterfly pleco."

Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean...

Yep, hillstream loach. Those are cool fish. I had two, but one died and now I have just one. Incidentally they like cool water with a high current.

yep. thats definitly a hillstream loach. theyre fairly hardy, and can be kept in temps up to 75F, although they prefer well-oxygenated water with a current and should be in groups (3 or more is good)

What you have looks like the Borneo Sucker, Pseudogastromyzon myersi, or a similar species.

Although they will go up to 75°F, they prefer it somewhat cooler - 68°F is a better temperature for them if that's what you have. However, you should check the identity carefully, as there may be species that like it warmer, though there aren't many of these if I recall correctly.

Borneo Suckers are among the weird and wonderful Hillstream Loaches, the Family Balitoridae (which used to be called the Homalopteridae). Many of these prefer cooler temperatures than the 'typical' tropical aquarium setup, and also like fast flowing, well oxygenated water. They are, however, interesting curiosities that will provide quite a spectacle if given a setup to their liking!
