I was watching my tank closely today while they were attacking a pear. Then all of a sudden I saw a CL about 2+ins. It appears one of the baby clowns has just put on a growth spurt, the others are getting bigger but know where as fast as this one. Is a nomal growth habit?

The only change is I have been very slowly reducing the hardness of the water.

I will try to get a photo of all of them together.

Keith

I've heard that in some of the larger fish species, juvenile fish can experience growth spurts. I guess you just made conditions right for the loach to start growing rapidly. I know that they are normally slow growing fish, so you may have done something that activates the fish's growth hormones. Sounds cool!

well humans have growth spurts so maybe clowns and other fish do aswell.

ive noticed this before in the past with my dads ones, one week they seemed to be tiny then next time you look and they seem to have doubled.

Clown Loaches grow fairly fast until the reach aboout 4-5" then the slow down. Be patient in a few years they`ll need a nice BIG tank

i have a shoal of six youngsters
and 1 of my clown loaches just had a growth spurt and is like a giant compared to the others he is about 3"
I think it has something to do with dominance
it chases the others harmlessly.

un like my adult pair 7" they fearcely attack any other fish I put in there (other clown loaches, blue acaras)
highly unusual

When one fish starts growing before the others it put off hormones in the water that slows the growth of it`s tank mates.
