I have actualy no idea how old mine are but if some are supposed top grow past 10ins (yet to see) and they grow extremly slow.

It could be different to wild fish as to Aquarium kept fish.

My four small clown Loaches have grown about 1/2ins in one year.

What size tank do you have them in?

I have 5 in my 55g tank.

2 are 15 years old, one is 8" and probably more. The other is maby 6.5" (it might be a difference between male/female, im not sure)

I bought 3 babies a little less than a year ago, one grew an inch, another grew 1/2" and the other has shown no growth at all.

I have a 5ft 18x18ins
Fully UG two risers, two 4ins air stones, and the Large Eheim Canister. Also large rocks and drift wood caves.

For some reason the growth rate seems to vary a lot.

I'm pretty sure that clown loaches are very slow growers, and it is very apparent because of their maximum size. Also, I believe that wild clown loaches can get to be a foot in length, whereas captive specimens usually stop growing at eight inches or so. Am I right there? I'm not absolutely positive on their average length in the aquarium.

In Malaysia, Clown Loaches are game fish that are eaten on a regular basis...

Many of the adult trops are also protected to allow for sales of the young to the trade.

In the wild they exceed 12 inches, some way over that.

Tank size always reflects fish size. I doubt the mentioned Clowns are 15 years old, perhaps more like 5 years and will reach the average tank-raised size of perhaps 10 inches if kept in very large aquaria and well fed with the proper diet.

i was going to say - i would think victimisation would know how long he has had the fish for

And you said yourself that their size depends on the tank. If a person was to have a 300 gal tank, I am sure that a CL would reach well over 10", however unfortunately this is very impractical for a lot of people.

My oldest CL is coming up to 1 year old, if not already. He has grown probably 3 times his original size (from about 1.5" - 4.5". I upgraded to a bigger tank not too long ago and when I did, all 4 of my CL's had a sudden growth spurt.

Without any scientific backing, I'd say that the older and bigger they get, the slower they grow.

Of my 8 loaches the biggest 2 are about 8-9 inches and are approx 8 years old however since i moved them into a 125 uk gallon tank all the smaller loaches have grown more noticeably.
