I have four Clown Loaches which are approximately eight years old. They are great characters and very intelligent. Has anyone else noticed that they don't like blue stones? One of them started removing all blue stones from in and around his pipe and now all the others are doing it. I have mounds of blue stones in the tank! Thought fishes were colour blind but now they are doing another extra-ordinary thing. Feed time is nine pm and they always know. They start swimming up and down and looking at me, where ever I am in the room. Now they have begun swimming up and down half an hour before...each with a white stone in it's mouth!! It's like they are saying they are so hungry that they could eat a rock! We just sit here and laugh. Has anyone else had this kind of experience?

I haven't got anything that would stand out in colour like your blue stones. But I would love to see that! I don't believe that fish are colourblind... why have the bright colours if your world (environ & potential mates/rivals) is devoid of colour. Just doesn't make sense.

I think when people say that some animals are colour blind theat they mean they are lacking certain cones (eg the ones that detect red) but other ones may be more sensitive. Eg I think it is a bird of prey like an eagle can see far more of the spectrum than humans including infrared to sense motion. Compared to that we are suffering a vision deficit. I would like to see what it is that they see!

When I had all the large ones they started moving all the stones in their cave to make it deeper. I had to lift the cave roof higher then they stopped doing it.

That's a classic I'd love to see that as well .

Fish colorblind They need to be able to see color in order to recognize color patterns in fish to get the right school. That and to see all the pretty colors that divers wear underwater . Color is lost as you go deeper fist to go is red last to go is blue (unless it's the other way around :%)) that might have something to do with it.

I saw some research results for Fly Fishing done many years ago and it was established that fish only saw black but in all it's shades. It was also established that red was the darkest of the black they saw.

My clown loaches would play with the gravel in the tank often moving it around. They always picked up the white gravel pieces in the black gravel tank. More of a game than moving it anywhere from what I could see. They would steal the piece of gravel from each other.

Empty chairs at empty tables, the room silent, forlorn.

My clown kept digging in a spot, until he found a black piece of gravel, and then he started running all over the place with that piece of gravel in his mouth. The other clowns were chasing him, trying to get it out of his mouth, as if playing rugby. When I went close to the tank to see what he was holding, he dropped it, and ran in to hide.

I moved away from the tank, he came back, and picked up that exact same pebble

I dont know what it is, but it seems like a game to me in the fish world.

I don't think it is the color that matters. I think they can just tell which one doesn't belong.

and the post abve yours, uhm huh?
