Clown Loaches Talking | |
FishKeeperJim Big Fish Member MTS Anonymous Posts: 348 Kudos: 208 Votes: 186 Registered: 09-Jan-2007 | For a while now I have been hearing these Clicking noises coming from my 55 gallon tank. I keep checking the mechanical stuff filter power head and the like. but I never realized what it was. Then two days ago I hung a slice of Cucumber in the middle of the tank, and within a minute I was hearing the clicks again. Turns out whenever the Loaches take a bite they click, One was there and after the clicking started the other 3 showed up. I'm thinking the clicking is them saying Food is here come on over. In every thing I have read, nothing mentioned the noises. So I was surprised, and wanted to share this. mts.gif" border="0"> I vote do you? My Tanks at Photobucket |

I mean, I was probably 20 feet away and I kept hearing this clicking sound! If you read about it online, there are some websites that state that loaches do it when they're frightened, and other websites swear that they only do it when content. So, in other words, we know jack about why they do it. With mine, though, I always took it to mean that they were happy, because they would all school together and cruise the tank. Joe Potato |

Guess they don't want the others to know they have food. Maybe they have a different pitch or something for food and scared? mts.gif" border="0"> I vote do you? My Tanks at Photobucket |

To give you an idea how loud it can be I have a 10yld cat which does not like sudden loud noises yesterday she was laying on the light then all of a sudden a loud click and she jumped of the light. General Hague Enthusiast Posts: 182 Kudos: 81 Votes: 3 Registered: 29-Jun-2007 | My Clown loaches make clicking noises whenever they I give them mini krill to eat. I used to have Yo Yos and they made them too. I have a question about clown loaches though, I just recently got them, like maybe 2 weeks ago. How big is their max size and how long (months and/or years) to get full size? How much would a small clown loach grow in 3 years? |

I did have three 7+ins but lost two due to an introduced water supply problem. The largest one now would be 8-9ins. At an early age they seem to put on growth spurts about every 6-12 months then they seem to slow down to 1cm per year or even less than that. Here is a recent photo of one of the large ones. General Hague Enthusiast Posts: 182 Kudos: 81 Votes: 3 Registered: 29-Jun-2007 | Thanks. That is the biggest clown loach I have seen to date. Currently I have some in my 20 gallon. I know they will outgrow it, and I will bring them back to the LFS if I don't have a bigger tank by the time they are bigger. Think I might be ok for 3 years or no for my small clown loaches? |

General Hague Enthusiast Posts: 182 Kudos: 81 Votes: 3 Registered: 29-Jun-2007 | One of my LFS would probably sell a clown loach that big for $100. Jeez, how much time (years and months) did it take for that one to get that big or did you buy him/her big? |

keithgh *Ultimate Fish Guru* Posts: 6371 Kudos: 6918 Votes: 1542 Registered: 26-Apr-2003 | I have had the CL for over 18 years now and he would have been about 2-3 ins when I bought them WS That is the main reason why I store all my water in that way I cannot introduce it into the tank via the water change. I have seen smaller and they are asking A$100++ Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do.
