I heard that Java Fern usually deterrs fish from eating the plants because it is hard (or something like that)?

I have only Anubias in my 5ft tank and they leave it well alone. I regually feed them lettuce leaves and they can actually rip it appart. Using that as an example they can and do eat soft greenry.
But some plants could have a not so nice a taste for them

are they actually eating it, or just uprooting it? most plants will get uprooted before they have a chance to attach themselves to something, especially the stem type plants which don't really grow a real strong root system
