Hi all! To cut to the chase, i wanted a nice schooling fish that looked cool, and was not a tetra...So glass cats came to mind! I will have an Ecco 2236 rated for an 80g on my tank, and a powerhead, so flow wont be a problem. I want to have a 40g tank, but i dont know about the structural integrity of our 2 story house's second story, and i sure dont want it to collapse! If i cant get a 40g, i will settle for a 30g long. They sold a few of them at my LFS, but they are so cheap that theyre going so quick! I was wondering how many glass cats max could i keep in a 40g, if i could keep them. How bout a 30?

The stocking goes like this;

40g

20x Harlequin Rasboras

3x-5x BN Plecos

1x-3x Dwarf Gouramis

+6x Kuhli Loaches

?x Glass Catfish

30g

15x Rasboras

3x BN Plecos

1x Dwarf Gourami

4x-6x Kuhli Loaches

?x Glass Catfish

I know it is kinda crowded, but this is the absolute MAX i think. I can adjust it however much i want, except i cant remove any of the listed ones. I Like everything mentioned, so.....I am also accepting stocking sugggestions, using at least 3 of the species above. That would be wonderful if anyone could do that!

Thanks again! I really am trying to plan out an almost perfect tank, tweaked to my liking!

i pretty much agree with CLF's suggestions. however could i make one other? instead of glass cats maybe you could try something like 5-6 upsidedown catfish? ive never actually kept glass catfish but i hear upsidedowns are a more active species. i personally love mine. i think they get to be about the same size im not sure. anyways just a suggestion. best of luck! hope you get that 40!

5 upside down cats would produce alot more waste than 5 glass cats, they also get larger and bulkier.

Sincerely, I wouldn't put the Bn plecos. It is not that there is a problem puting this species together, but all the species you mentioned are quite delicate and shy fish, which doesnt like to be bothered, only the plecos are quite strong fish, after they grow up a little they become territorial , fight and disturb the other fish. More than that, they are nocturnal and I dont think the dwarf gouramis would like some monsters with big heads waking them up every night. At some point they will also stop eating algae.
I would also go for the bigger tank, and I would take one pair of dwarf gouramis. Make sure you don't get 2 males. One is too little, 3 is too much unles you have 2 females and only one male. This little fish can get territorial with his own kind.
