Hi,
There are a lot hoplos spieces. So without a description of the fish it is very hard to help you

however
The most easily available hoplos are Megalechis thoracata (which is probably what you have).

a very similar species is the M. personata

Hope this helps you find out which fish you have??

Most species are evenly tempered, and should be fine with yoru existing stock.

I know these as Hoplosternum species (another taxonomic change to commit to the database - sigh). And they can get quite large. 7 inches isn't unusual. So you shouldn't have problems with the plecs or angels, but your gold barbs might become a tempting snack for a big one. However, I hasten to emphasis might, as they have a reputation for being somewhat better behaved in this regard than similar sized Pims, for example. Even so, it pays to be vigilant. Especially as they grow!

I think the most important piece of info is, what size tank is it? Fish tend to be less agressive in bigger tanks.

I have two Hoplos now and they tend to be rather shy.
The previous ones I have had were always in the front of the tank.
I noticed when I purchased these two they were rather a shy lot in the LFS tank.

They do like caves or areas they can call their own.
