i was looking through the profiles for a bodem fedder for my tank if some of you dont know my plan it is to get all of the original stocking out and get m&f pearl gouramis 3 ottos and a bottom feeder and i though instead of a bunch of corys 1 pictus would work there cool looking everything in its profile works with me it probably might eat my ottos so im probably going to get a different plecoi was just woundering what you guys have to say about pictus catfish
and if they would eat ottos?

An adult pictus catfish could eat Otos. Although the profile says they are solitary, I was under the impression that this species actually prefers to be kept with members of its own kind.

Perhaps consider bristlenose plec instead if you want the pictus.

We had two sizeable (5" Pictus in our 55 gallon community, and they ate two danios, and a bunch of tetras..... Also, they were very aggressive and bullyish.
We read the profiles etc... prior to purchase, but couldn't believe how active and aggressive they were. Bad stocking on our part.
I won't have another.

personally i almost never see my pictus. as to the solitary part i asked that question in an earlier post and from what i heard at least that its best to only mix them with their own kind in larger tanks because they will fight amongest themselves.

The true test of character is not how much we know how to do, but how we behave when we dont know what to do.

no ofense to any of you that like bn plecos but i personaly think they look kinda gross
so id look at a different pleco that size

and they ate two danios, and a bunch of tetras.....

i dont think i would have that problam with pearl gouramis seeing as there the same size but one thing im worried about there is would they nip at they long string like fins on them?

sora is there alot of places for him to hide? or is he just not a very fast moving fish?, just sits in one spot all day?

I have always seen pictus catfish as very active fish. I expect the difference in experience is likely due to the fish being kept by itself.

Gross? How about a female, their bristles are not as ounced. Alternatively, Chaetostoma sp. (rubbernose, widemouth, bulldog plecs) may be another option, though many of these fish come from cooler, oxygenated waters.

Yeah, i agree with Shinigami, especially when young they love to be in groups, they even "school" to some point.

ok i found a link... read the comments
http://www.thetropicaltank.co.uk/Fishindx/pictus.htm

it says more active in the day when kept in a group does that mean they cant be alone? because i read lots of places that they can only be together in a large tank now im wondering is 1 good?

I have had Pictus for many years up until recently when an introduced water problem killed them. They can have a tendency to be rather shy, they love plenty of hiding places. They have huge mouths and will eat small fish as a snack. I would recommend only big tanks 5ft+ and a minimum of 4-6.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

yes he has very many hiding places. he seems to have taken ove the hollow log as his territory and pretty much stays there. hes out and about at night but the faintest hint of light and he tends to head right back in. and sorry guys this is what i was baseing mine off of http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/threads/36197.1.htm?6# probably should have gone back and re read it before i opend my mouth.

Nah, I should've probably read that post before I opened my mouth; it's not like I've ever actually kept pictus... I'm not always right.
