How do you prepare lettuce?

havent given my bristlenoses any vegies for a long time.

I might just give them some shelled peas to flush them out.

Lettuce I usually blanch (place it in a small cup of hot but not boiling water) for a few moments till it goes soft. Then weigh it down with a rock .

What I usually do is get the piece of lettuce I want, put it in a cup of water and microwave it for like 30 seconds or so. Worked for my BN, thats how I treat all veggies I feed to my tanks. They loved it.

EDIT:

Oh yeah...I have one of those veggie clips to clip my veggies onto, but you can use a rock just as well.

Rocks dont look as funny as veggie clips in a tank

I've been known to just stick it under some of the substrate though as well .....

Lately I have been feeding them a "Iceburg" lettuce leaf every day if I think of it.
All I ever do is wash it under the tap cut out the hard white center, place it in the tank then place the small white rock on top. It is all gone under one hour.

I just wash lettuce as well, no cooking. I attach it to a rock with a small rubberband.

I give them just about any type of lettuce- iceburg, romaine, etc. They LOVE spinach also! I do not cook them,I just wash & throw them in the tank.

I have a veggie clip but it seems not to want to stick to the tank anymore.Maybe time for a new one..
The lettuce usually ends up on top of the water-anyway.Cucumbers are GREAT ones that they crave. I cut it in half(long ways)& its gone by morning!

My plecos love it,especially at night. It gives em something to swim to.

I used to give my fish zuchini. The cories used to mess up the whole tank with it and I'd have to clean it all out.

I thought that feeding ice berg lettuce wasn't recommended because it has no nutritional value. Do you feed it as a treat?

I've tried placing iceberg lettice straight into the tank, but my BNs dont seem to be intrested. But once I place half a cucumber into the tank, they fight over it. Quite strange seeing everyone's fish seem to like lettice and mine dont even go near it.

I never tried feeding iceberg before because I always thought Romaine was so much better for whatever reason.

Mango,

You said dropped directly into the tank...

Does that mean you didn't weigh it down with anything? Because it's very unlikely for a pleco to come up to the surface for his or her veggies.

I've had some plecos that ate lettuce, some that didn't.

But all of mine have been successful eaters with cucumber and zuchini, and my snails as well.

My plecos always come to the top to get their lettuce, cucumbers, etc. The cucumbers-especially make the water cloudy if I place in the daytime so I wait til night, when they feed. I will watch them hang upside down underneath the lettuce/or cucs & enjoy their snack. It will all be injested by morning.
I always feed a variety of lettuce-as a treat. The plecos love the shrimp pellets & Spirulina disks as their regular meal.
My apple snails also LOVE the lettuce & cucumbers.
