I've seen the profile of ottos and I Was thinking about getting 4/5 to my new 80g. Problem is that the water temperature I practice in my aquarium is a bit higher like 27ºC so I don't know if is aceptable to keep them at this readings. I'dd Also would like to know if they have any problem if housed with Discus. at 28ºc. Thanks for your Answers. Miguel Face up make your stand and realize your living in the golden Years |

Otos and discus should be fine together for the most part. Just keep the Otos well fed and you won't ahe any problems. there have been cases of otos sucking on discus slime coats, but they are very rare and usually happen if the otos don't have enough algae and are looking for a food supply. ![]() |

However, at the higher temperatures, they would probably prefer stronger currents than the Discus would like, although if you have decent filtraton for the Discus, it's possible that there's enough current in there to keep the Otocinclus happy. If you have a large capacity external power filter on that aquarium, no problem - the Otocinclus will be quite happy. Chances are though you'll have to make sure the filter intakes and outlets are fitted with guards to stop the silly little so and so's swimming into the tubes, which they're apt to do when there's a decent current! ![]() |

Have a look in [link=My Profile]http:// www.fishprofiles.com/interactive/forums/profile.asp?userid=6741" style="COLOR: #00FF00[/link] for my tank info [link=Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tanks]http://photobucket.com/albums/b209/keithgh/Betta%20desktop%20tank/" style="COLOR: #00FF00[/link] Keith ![]() ![]() Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. Whenever I tried to move mine to one of my warmer tanks they'd die off despite very careful acclimating and all other water parameters being the same. I never managed to keep them alive above 80F(26.6C). Mostly I keep my tanks at 76-78F(~25C). |

When Summer 2003 decided to go Australian on me here in the UK, their home hit 32°C in the daytime, and rarely dropped below 28°C at night. So I put the powerhead on max power to make sure they all had enough oxygen. Everyone came through, including the Pandas, which I expected to expire at those temps. Even when I did water changes to try and cool things down that time, the temperature soon climbed back up again, but the water changes probably helped ... What counts with Otocinclus at higher temps is: [1] plenty of algae to eat; [2] good strong currents; [3] more frequent than average water changes. Give them these three conditions and they should even live happily alongside 'hothouse' fishes such as Venezuelan Rams and Discus. ![]() |

Otocinclus are found in 30+C degree charcos in next to still water during the summer months. In fact, their small mouths are not designed for high current environemnts. Rather, they spend their time in loose leaf litter alongside other slow moving blackwater species such as discus. |

I have good current in my tank though from the filter and an airstone. He lives happily at that temp. Also I have raised the temp up to 86F before and he was fine. |
