Skinny Clown Loach...again | |
bkaryn Fingerling Posts: 46 Kudos: 17 Votes: 0 Registered: 18-Jul-2003 | Seems I have this problem about once a year. I have a clown loach that's losing body weight. My other loach is fine, a big fat fish! I only have two because I haven't had much luck with them except for my big fat fella. They always get skinny on me and die. Anyway, this one seems to sense the food and swims around frantically, but doesn't actually aim right and misses his food. Any suggestions? Thanks Oh and water parameters are all fine. All other fish in the tank are thriving. |

Ive had the same problem a few yrs back..had 3 one always grew and the other 2 stayed small.. might be due to stress , he getting enough food? does he just do the swimming thing when the food is offered or does he swim aimlessly like that alot? how old is he just a yr? when was the last time you did a WC? could be just water conditions at this time.. check your parm.. someone will come soon and give you more advise to help.. im new and thats what I would do.. CL are so sensitive sometimes.. good luck sue |

I bought three small ones for my 55gal (yes i know the get big.. but it takes a LONG time) anywho. one of the three really thrived and one just slowly sank away, i tried everything, i moved him to another tank where fighting for food would not occur, and it just didnt help.. to me it seems like parasite caused him to die. It is true that clown loaches are very sensitive. sorry i cant offer advice, but i'd like to keep an eye on this thread for future reference to my fishies. *Chelle* I love the fishes cuz they're SOOO delicious... |

At the moment I would be more interested in your tank. Full peramiters, water & filter changes how and what percentages? Size of tank, what else is in the tank? Do you have plenty of caves and or hiding places for them? Exactly what are you feeding them and how often? I know this seems like a lot of questions but I think it is required to give you a full and correct answer. I personaly think they love to be in schools. If you have different sizes in the tank they seem to stay with their own size group. I am far from an expert with CLs but I do seem to have a good selection of sizes as My Profle shows. Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. Anyway he is still skinny of course, but I think this happened with my big fat clownie. He was skinny for ages and once he got to a certain size he just took off. I'm hoping the younger one does the same. He is under a year old. Well it's less than a year since I got him. So for now, everything is looking fine. |
