I put them all in a bucket and started acclimating them... A little over an hour later they were happily buzzing around the bucket, so I got ready to net them out and put them into the quarrantine tank. The first one was caught and dunked into the tank with no problems, but the second one couldn't get out of the net when I put him in the tank! One of his pectoral fins was caught! I tried stretching out the net to let the spine go, but it was practically woven into the net. I tried grabbing the poor cory and sliding the net off, but that didn't work either. In fact, as he thrashed, he managed to get his other pectoral fin stuck, too! Fortunately, I was able to get that one free in short order. The both of us were freaking out at this point, so I cut the net around his fin and released him back into the bucket with the piece of net still attached, but not tangling him up any further. I caught the rest of the corys using a shot glass, and with a pair of tweezers and tiny scissors, I was able to finally get the last bit of net off of the cory who got stuck. He's clearly freaked out, and hiding now, but I hope he'll be okay. I feel so awful...![]() From now on I'll not be using a net to catch any of my catfish, ever! Of course that begs the question as to how I do expect to catch them when I need to... Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean... |

I have these raphael cats and nets are not recommended for them either. Their spines stuck out wen I caught them the last time, I was worried they wld get entangled. One of the cats tore a fin in the transfer ![]() |

It's qiute small & it's only good for Tetra's & Corydoras, but it's very good. The net doesn't seem to have any holes. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzaqq/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

Then punch several small holes in a plastic baggie, then find a way to attach it. Why pay for a fancy scoopy thingy ? And no scale damage. The Amazon Nut... |

I've never had any problems with cories and nets. The worst ones are synos and doradids. |

Stupid idea, lol, the Royal Pleco tore the thing wide open. Not only do they have pectoral fins, but their covered in fine spiny hair-like odontodes. I'm so silly sometimes, but luckily the Royal Pleco was out pretty quickly. ![]() I have trouble thinking of actually grabbing my fish; I'm afraid I'll squeeze too hard. ![]() -------------------------------------------- The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. |

The net I have is one of the very fine-mesh blue ones, but apparently it wasn't fine enough. I have trouble catching fish with my hands because I'm afraid I'll hurt them and I don't want to get poked with the spines (I got stabbed by my pleco once, and that was very unpleasent). I sterilized a small jelly jar for future use, though I like the plastic baggy idea, as well. Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean... |
