what types of plants do you have? My clowns love to destroy aponogetons, bolbitis ferns, sagittaria and vallisneria. They dont eat them, they just snip the leaves off.

My clown loaches shred anything green in colour, and red, and anything that is shaped like a plant. They shredded the edges of the fake plants I put in the tank. I saw some green cloth floating one fine day, and now see it regularly. They shred even if they cannot eat.

My clowns do not touch my plants as I have 99% Anubias whih have a thick hard leaf.

But on the other hand I feed them lettuce leaves and they literally tear it appart. Possible reason it is thin and sweet.

Here is a photo I hope of the Clown eating lettuce.

I don't think that the CL will eat any aquarium plants.
