I am trying to decide which kind to purchase. I like the look of both of them. Any opinions on your favorite? I have a 29 gallon tank with 4 Rosy Barbs as the current residents. I'm planning on getting some Tiger Barbs as well. Thanks.

I love my yo-yo's. I have two and everyone says you need at least six, but mine get along just fine. There is a definite pecking order between them and they love to play. They always greet me when I come home. They will only get to about 3.5 in. long, which is a bonus.
My only complaint...they eat my plants. No matter what I feed them, they eat my plants.
I can't speak for zebras.

I love my yo yos. they play very happily all around the tank. I have two, along with a dwarf pleco, seven harlies, a dwarf gourami and a molly. plan to get more when I can, but they're hard to find hereabouts.

I also go with Yoyo's, as they are quite nice & playfull.

Ive had both kinds and I prefer the zebras over the yoyo loaches for a smaller tank like yours. Just as matter of how active the fish are in comparison and their agression levels and potential size.

I've never owned either, but I personally like zebra loaches better. From the ones I've seen, they swim all over the tank in all levels, And happy ones get some really beautiful coloration. However, I've also seen that they can bea bit more shy than yoyo loaches, and they are more loners than shoaling fish.

Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean...

i would also highly recommend zebras, they are great fun to watch and stay relatively small, they would suit almost any community aquarium!

no, clown loaches, zebra loaches and yoyo loaches are all different species. Here is the FP.com profile of the Zebra loach aka Botia striata.

Personally, I'd cast my vote for zebras. I had a trio of yoyos once and I saw a bit more aggression out of them than I liked. maybe I just needed more of them, I don't know. but I did also keep a trio of zebras and didn't see any aggression from them at all. they were a bit more reclusive but you may get more activity from them keeping them in a larger group.

Jason's experience is not by far odd, that is exactly what I meant by the agression levels I mentioned in my post. I think in a tank that small the yoyos would give some problems agression wise.

I have a golden zebra loach (botia histrionica)and shes mental. I've had her for a year and she's highly entertaining. She's about to 4 inches long and a little plump. She wont grow much bigger than that. She's a bit of a bully when there are frozen bloodworms around and demands her share of them. Other than that she's a very easy tankmate.
