I know they are too small for my 90G aquarium, but how long do I have before they outgrow my 90G? right now I have 6 clown loaches, they're really small, I'm alsomt scared that they will get stuck by my AC300 if they come to close, they're about 3/4 of an inch.

I'm planning on getting at least a 180G, but I'm just wondering how long I have so I know how much to save each paycheck ...

clowns wolnt outgrow a 90 gallon tank.

A 90 gallon tank is more than pleanty for them.

So, i would say they can stay in there forever.

A school of 6 full grown clown loaches should have a 125 gallon tank. They can get to be around 8" in length, and due to that should have a wide tank that gives them lots of room to move around, the footprint of the 125 gallon tank is nice for them. I'd give them a little more than a 90, I think 90s are pretty tallish tanks. More surface area would be better IMO.

You have some time though, clowns are pretty slow growers once they hit the 4" mark I think. GL

once your clowns get up to about 3-4 inches long then you can start thinking about getting them a new tank. a 90 is just not enough for 6 at once.

I would say at least four years and may be even longer it will all depend on how they are fed and grow.

I would say you have plenty of time.

I would be more concerned about them getting into your filter, you might be able to put some thing around it to stop them. At that size they can squeese through a very small hole.

I have an empty 55G and an empty 90G, so don't worry at worse I would have split the 6 loaches in 2 groops... "temporarely", I'm not a irresponsible fish owner (well I hope so), I don;t think they would have mind TOO much, for lik a month or 2... but now that I know I have about 4 yrs, I'll have time to make myself that huge kick- setup I want

I'm thinking about moving this summer, so I didn't want to set up a 180G/220G tank just to take it apart 6 months later... And I couldn't wait 9 months before buying them I think I have "obsessive fish stuff syndrome" I have to buy a little something every 2 weeks, otherwise, I cannot sleep at night

Now I know

Don't worry, your syndrome is completely normal, I assure you.

Theres's several syndromes in fish keeping you have to look out for.

MTS- Multiple Tank Syndrome (or Malaysian Trumpet Snails ) is prolly the worst one yet. It's so addicting and it never ends...

Back on topic...

I'm sure they won't mind terribly for too long, just keep them healthy and make sure they don't get stressed out if you seperate them, since they are schooling fish. The important thing is that you understand that a 90 is too small for a school of full grown clowns. They would love the new set up that you're talking about!
