![]() | bottom feeder for 10gal tank? |
id10t![]() Hobbyist Posts: 57 Kudos: 57 Votes: 0 Registered: 22-Jun-2005 | Can someone suggest a bottom feeder for my 10 gal tank? I've got a couple of fantail guppies in there currently, and I'd like to add some neon tetras, so a small (4" or less) bottom feeder that does well on its own would be appreciated. Or failing a single fish option, what species of cory would be small enough so that 3 of them wouldn't overwhelm my tank? Thanks! Steve |

In pet stores, they'll probably be called either dwarf or pygmy corys. Another option excellent for small tanks is shrimp. Red cherry shrimp eat algae as well as detrius off the bottom of the tank, and they add next to nothing to the bioload, so you can have quite a few of them, and they may even breed for you. Just provide them with small caves or crevaces to molt in, and add a few drops of marine iodine to the water. Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean... |

Found out the sales person lied to me about what it was (they said it is a mad tom catfish, max length 4.5"... yeah, right. good thing i noticed the scientific name). That guy is going to live with my mother - she's got a nice large pond in her back patio he can enjoy and grow to full size in. |

If the guppies and possibly neons are the only fish, then I say a clown pleco. Either that or a bn, but I think clowns are smaller. Also cories need 6+, so 4 dwarves won't work. |
