Reason for saying that is other fish could be eating the eggs. Do you have/know the correct conditions for the eggs to hatch? Do you know how to raise them after they have hatched? Sorry to ask all these questions but it is possibly the best way we can help you. The eggs can be removed by using something sharp and straight edge like either an old credit card, or a razor blade etc. Once the eggs are removed from the tank wall, leave them in a separate hatching tank. This tank does not have to be extra large, but sufficient to contain all the fry that might hatch out 3-5 days later. In this hatching tank, aereation is of utmost importance in order to prevent the growth of unwanted fungus on the eggs as might happen in a tank with still water. Hence, a simple airstone is sufficient to keep the water in the tank moving. Some aquarists also like to add a little methylene blue (anti-fungus medication) to further prevent the formation of fungus on the eggs (I also highly recommend this). Please remmeber to have a heater in the hatching tank too, as eggs at too cold a temp would not hatch. If i'm not mistaken, temps to hatch cory eggs are at around 26-28degC. If the eggs are fertlized, and conditions are favourable, then they'll hatch in abt 3-5 days time (this again depends on the corydoras species). After they hatch, they'll quickly use up their vitellin sacs (tiny sacs containing fry food). However, shortly after hatching, they use up their own food, and start searching for more food. A good first fry food is infusoria, baby daphnia/brineshrimp or there are even commercial products available for egg-laying species (such as corydoras). However, if these products are unavailable, you can simply use a hard-boiled egg yolk. Add this eggyolk to a glass of water, and this forms microparticles which you can then sieve. This nutritious liquid can then be given to fry, but take care not to overfeed as eggyolk may pollute the tank. Eggyolk is rich in proteins and fats (lipids). At this stage, the most important thing to remember is the upkeep of the eggs. Cory fry are especially susceptible to old tank water and may die. Due to this reason, a regular change of water in the hatching tank is necessary. For the fry of some of the hardier species like bronze (aeneus) or peppered (paleatus), a water change once a day is fine. However, for fry of more delicate species require water change of maybe twice a day. Remember to use freshwater that has the same water quality as the hatching tank. If all goes well, and fry are well fed, they should grow rapidly. Good luck! ![]() |
