i just noticed today the two spotted corys i have are very skinny. they dont seem sick, but they have always been timid...it seems the other corys, pleco, and south american bumblebee cat are chasing them off when the food hits the bottom....they looked horrible!

i over fed today and dropped some shrip pellets and a vegie wafer down by the cave they had reclined too...i hope they are doing ok :#(

Feed them sinking pellets as soon as you switch off the tank lights.
This is the easiest way to feed bottom feeding fish, even if you also have a Pleco.

Try spreading the food over a large area. With the sinking pellets I always break them up and spread them over half the tank.

Have a look in [link=My Profile]http://

I agree with Keith.

Because my Panda Corys go absolutely nuts over Hikari algae wafers, I have to break them into pieces and scatter them over the aquarium to make sure my Otocinclus get a share. The resulting 'tug of war' scenes over the scraps are amusing to watch, but only because I know they all get a decent share.

Try some 'lights out' feeds with the food scattered about. Also, to make life even happier for the Corys, I'd drop in some live Bloodworm after 'lights out' - if the way my Pandas go nuts over them is any indication, your Corys will love you for it! Believe me, my Pandas smile visibly when I toss in live Bloodworm!

okies, thanks for the advice...i cant break up the wafers( i feed the hakari wafers as well as shrimp pellets and a sinking pellet food thats well balanced) or the barbs will inhale them before they hit the bottom.the good news is, they arent as skinny now...the breaking the pellets up helped.

Use my trick to feeding broken Hikari wafers.

Step 1 : find a spare piece of undergravel filter uplift tube.

Step 2 : place broken segment of hikari wafer in tube, holding it in place with finger.

Step 3 : insert tube into aquarium, with other end of tube near gravel (or touching the bottom if you think your Barbs will need it as a countermeasure).

Step 4 : release the wafer segment and let it sink.

Step 5 : repeat 1-4 above with as many broken segments as you need to feed your bottom feeders.

Worked for me in the days when my Lemon Tetras were still alive and kicking, and would try and catch the sinking wafer segments in midwater until I alighted upon this feeding trick.
