hey there. I'm a huge fan of the Clown Loach and would love to know what size tanks are suitable for more mature aged CL's. I have just recently upgraded and will most likely need to do so again in the next 12 months. I have 4 CL's. What size tank should I look into getting next? What do the rest of you have?

(could you please provide measurments rather than volume as I'm in Australia and only really understand litres!! However, I do know that I have a 50.5 US gallon tank.)

thanks!

If you are looking for a tank that is suitable for ADULT clowns i would suggest one that is between 5-6feet long and anywhere from 18in. wide on up. Bigger is always better for larger fish. This may compute to about 125gallons us.

I agree with clownloachfan. The tank should also have hiding places and furnishings for them to swim in and out of and snuffle around. It has been my experience that a bigger, well decorated tank means more activity.

In addition to having the tank described above, I would recommend getting, say, at least two more clown loaches. The reason for this is that they are shoaling fish, and benefit greatly from having company.

at the moment my tank is 3ft by 18in so i know i can have one 18in wide. I think i'll be able to fit a 5ft long tank as well. look like that'll be my next purchase! thanks guys!

Also, how many mature CL's could i fit in a 5ft x 18in tank?

I have a 5ftx18x18ins very heaverly planted and several caves in my tank. There are three large and four small clowns. I will try to locate a photo of the tank/cave also the loaches if possible.

This photo is the main cave area it has many entrances and sections also is at least 10ins from front to back

That is a wonderful thank. I have 9 clown loaches ranging from 1/2 an inch to about 3 inches in size. I have kept clowns before. I am in India, and it is difficult to find good aquarium decorations. Are those plants in your tank real? What aquarium plants have you put in, and that piece of wood, is that artificial or real?

Right now, I have some ceramic houses, a piece of drift wood with many little holes for the half inch clows to hide in, a rock with lots of caves. My tank is 4 feet and about 80 US gallons.

Any suggestions?

Thank you for the comments about my tank.

In the General Tank Photo the small leafed plants front left hand are Crypts. All the other plants are Anubias various varieties. They are either tied to rocks or timber with fishing line. The very large Anubias at the rear or the tank are just laying there some are well over 10yld.
All the wood in the tank is real.

Thanks so much. I am going to have to do a lot of leg work to go get these plants. They do look very well settled in, and the fact that they are over 10 years old explains it.
