My Aunt has an outdoor pond (approx 40g l=4',w= 4' H=10cm, {a square pond}) Would 2 loaches & 6 wcmm be okay in the pond? She lives in Sydney does anyone know if theres a problem, like weather or avalibility?? (eg:Un allowable import?) & it looks like theres some small water lillies on top (no flowers Very small, oval shaped green leaves) it also looks like theres some sort of moss on the bottom (java?) she'll pull it out if nessesery...& what alternatives could she use? Okay I think I covered most of it... (sorry if this is in the wrong forum I wasnt sure where to put this) Last edited by dude_dude at 17-Apr-2005 02:39 |

Sorry to be the bearer or bad news. ![]() Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes. |

Weather loaches are not eaters of other fish. Keep in mind, though you could keep in them in that pond, that Weather Loaches grow incredibly large in a pond setting, think over 1 foot in length. I watched a tv clip online from some Thai show, they were catching weather loaches in the river to make soup - apparently dojo loach soup is very popular, and they were pulling up ones that were close to 2 feet in length. The happier these guys are in cool water, with lots of food, the bigger they grow. As for livebearers, if you are thinking Guppies, I would say NO. There are some others you could try, that would probably be much more difficult to track down. If I were your Aunt, I would go for just White Cloud Minnows. Pop 20 of the little dudes in her pond, and by next year you will probably have over 100 of them. Could make a good profit that way.
