I went to a local wal-mart(I know first mistake, I know that now) and i bought 5 angelfish, they all looked fine in the tank at the store besides overcrowding thats why I bought 5 lol BUT when i brought em home the all started dropping like flys but the all acted normall except for one who started to stay around the top of the tank(not like a gasping but more like a floating (not swim bladder)
and the rest seemed fine....except for the fact just about every night one would end up dead (id be sleeping so cant see whats going on) but as of now i only had two of these fish left !!!!! outta all of them
THEN these last two stayed ok for about a month and a half then one died last night for no reason that i could tell
he was not swimming funny hiding not eating, anything like that and my water was all fine ,cleaned twice a week with all the needed chems added(without adding to much) my mind is going crazy trying to figure this out I've had angels just about all my life and never seen this before personally that is adn I have never seen this many die ever!!!!!...I'm sure this is not my fault but IF it is id like to know to help him right away He is the last one left so please If i could get some help soon it would be great!!!!! so i can at least keep one outta the five poor things

Can you give us some more information about the tank? How long it was set up for before you put them in? What other fish have you got in there? Water parameters?

[font color="#008000"]Hmm...if you say everything is right with tank parameters and such, then it's not you that is making your angel feel bad. I think, that whatever disease the others had, is afflicting your angel right now. I would add some melafix to the water, mabey do some regular water changes. But, if you want to avoid this next time, look in the tank if you want to buy one at the store. If you see any of these things in the tank, then don't get the angels.

Corpses of Dead Fish: If you see these laying on the bottom...odds are, all the fish in the tank have some sort of disease from the body decaying.

White Worms on Glass of Tank: I'm not sure if these harm the fish or not...but, I think the larval stages of these worms may.

Fish with body damage or ripped fins: Don't buy injured fish. But, that's just common sense.

I hope I helped, even if just a little.:88)

Mmm, a couple of thoughts on this situation. The first is that the fish that you purchased were very young if they were dime sized fish. Young fish are very susceptible to disease and to stress just as children are susceptible to just about any germ that is around.

My second thought is that the water conditions between the store and your tank were tremendously different. I have purchased fish at Walmart. Prior to acclimating them to my tank, I tested the water from the store. Although the pH was similar, the TDS (total dissolved solids) reading from their bag was over 1600 ms. My tanks are at 400 ms. Microsiemens is the conductivity of the solids dissolved in the water.

Acclimation for those fish took place over an 8 hour period as I placed them in a bucket and began a slow drip to gradually bring the water parameters into line. If I had not taken that approach the fish would have died over the next three days from symptoms that you described in your post.

Go back with your receipt and ask for your money back.
