I have to get rid of one of my tanks for money reasons. It's breaking my heart to get rid of these fish and I want to keep as many as I can. I will be moving my discus into my 8 foot tank and getting rid of my American Cichlids. Which of these fish can I keep with my discus if any.

Severums (i've heard of this being done but aren't sure of it)
Silver Dollars (as above)
Large Plecs (i'm sure these will be ok)
Cuckoo Catfish
Salmon tailed catfish.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Severums - NO - too aggressive.

Silver Dollars - YES - peaceful large schooling fish.

Large Plecs - NO - I have had problems with the common plecs sucking slime ofn my discus. I have no problems with dwarf ancistrus.

Cuckoo catfish - NO - preferred water temp is 25-26C, your discus should be at 29C.

Salmon Tailed Catfish, Arius leptaspis- NONONO - grows to 20 inches, brackish water but appears to have a wide range of pH adaptibility. Much too active.

Like your fish large?

Thanks...

I do like them large.

I'll take all your advice but I might give the plecs a chance because I've done a lot of reading that it is less common than people believe.

Anyone else have experience with this??

Hi there,

I have to agree whole heartedly with Bob, No to the pleco. I work at a LFS and have seen and heard some horrid things that plecos have done to discus, even to the point where one poor discus had a HUGE hole on its side where a pleco had sucked the flesh and all off... Id give them a miss
