I would go with an odd number of discus in the tank. They should be about the same size with a minimum of five total discus. Given the size of the tank I would bump it up to seven or nine fish.

I dont think it makes a lot of difference between odd or even numbers, just go with as bob has said, and the more the merrier as far as im concerned.

Just remember the more fish the bigger and more frequent the water changes are going to have to be.

I would go for the biggest tank possible then stock well.
