I am just wondering a quick questions:
If you have a breeding pair of Discus,
will they tolerate other Discus in the tank?
Or are they like Angels and aggressive to other Discus when they are breeding?
Thanks.

Hi,

They will not tolerate others in the tank and the rearing rate of the fry will be nil as the parents will eat the fry because they will see the other discus as a threat.

If you are going to breed they seperate bare bottom tank heaps of water changes and follow the guide that I posted on breeding and all should be okay

Does it make a difference if they are in a community tank setting?

Pete,

It won't make any difference. The pair may spawn, they may guard the eggs and the eggs may become wigglers. However, each fish in the tank is viewed as a predator and will stress the parents into egg or wiggler eating behavior if the other fish in the tank don't get to the spawn first!

Just like Angels, they like to be left on their own when breeding, if you want to save the fry.
