Some shellies are more easily stressed than others, and some are surprisingly brutish for their size. Any way you go, you should keep a 10-20 gal. tank cycled and ready in case you need to remove any fish. Some of the smaller neolamp. rockdwellers might work out okay (like cylindricus), and I totally second the suggestion of cyprichromies! They are cute, active, colorful, and a schooling cichlid as well, so get a bunch of them (with 2 females for every male, if possible). One important thing to keep in mind when you aquascape the tank is the kinds of territories each kind of fish needs. If you can, pile most of your rocks at one end (making sure that your tank, stand, and floor can take the imbalance of weight) and have your shell bed at the other. Your cichlids may rearrange things themselves, but I think that way you wil give them the best chance at staking out territories where everyone can be happy and not get eaten. Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean... |
