Larger, thicker harder plant leaves they'll tend to leave alone, such as your java fern. Anacharis has a good chance of getting eaten, as do many other soft leaved plants. |

I'd also like to say java fern is okay...but my filter eats it every time . Keep in mind most goldfish tanks are not only large (therefore need more lighting for the plants) but are also heavily filtered and many of the more delicate plants wont like it. Increasing veggie matter in the fishs diet can also help prevent midnight snacking. Feed a few peas a day and they should leave the flora alone. ^_^ |

I will try it as well. Will keep you posted if it works with my fantails or not. They are hungry ALL the time, no matter how much or how often I feed them. They are also big... Thanks for the tip ! Personally, along with the other suggestions, I would add plants for them to munch on. This will help vary their diet. One of the better "munching" plants for them would be anacharis. It is a cool to cold water plant, and should be left floating in the tank rather than attempting to root it. Floating, with good light, it will absorb some of the nitrates those fish generate, and also provide excellent plant matter for their diets. A kind of win, win situation.
