Geo is it a “Snake oil” as once stated when I mentioned it in a previous posting?
I have established it is a natural product from China and what it does is combine all the fine particles together thus making the water clearer. I have been using it for several months now and this is what I have discovered.
I am using UG filters as well as the large Eheim Pro11. More tank info in My Profile. I add a prescribed amount weekly with the water change. When I do the monthly filter cleaning I have started to notice a big change in the filtration materials. There is now more gunk in the base of the canister the course filtration material is very dirty and the course thick filter pad is always partially clogged up, from her on it changes now the finer filter material is always cleaner and the final two very fine filter pads are always no where near as dirty as they used to be therefore returning a cleaner water back into the tank.

Never heard of Geo before. It sounds like a water clarifier. Water clarifiers just bind small particles together into large particles so they can be removed by your filter.

I have some samples of this product but have been a little reluctant to try them.

Maybe i'll give it a go with my next water change, have heard that the water can go cloudy to start with tho. Is this true?

Those who say they cant, Never will !!!

The GEO liquid is a very pale browinish colour. Yes the water is discoloured for a time. This time will depend on the filtration the 5ft tank is crystal clear in about one hour+ whereas the Betta tank takes several hrs.

This product sounds very similar to one that's been on sale in the UK for ages - Acurel. Acurel comes in two varieties, Acurel E for ponds, and Acurel F for indoor aquaria.

Here's the company website (what little there is of it):

Acurel

View of the product

Also available in the USA

Apparently it acts as a flocculating agent - i.e., it makes small particles clump together into bigger ones, until the resulting aggregations precipitate out though negative bouyancy, and you can then gravel vac them out.

Acurel has been available since I was a teenager, so it's a product with a long history in the aquarium game. Given that it's still selling, I guess it must work fairly well, or it would have been junked by now. Products that don't work tend not to last thirty or more years in the game.

This Chinese variation on the theme sounds interesting though. Is it completely new and different, or have they been indulging in a spot of industrial espionage and stolen Acurel's recipe?

Alot of customers at work swear by this stuff. When it is added to the tank the fish actually swim into the cloud and appear more active after its addition. It is made in several varieties.... Gold fish, Planted tanks, Discus, Rift lake and a few others I cant remember right now.

I'm not sure what its benefit is but it doesnt seem to harm the fish.
