i want to know what can make my heater not work. its totally submerge in my tank. It keeps the light on not turning of. i put my hand in the water its cold between 19 and 20degrees celcius . Will my fish survive i have:
2 walking catfish 1 silver dollar 1 albino oscar 1 clown knife fish and 1 pleco and 1 rainbow shark. How long would they survive?
I will try to fix the heater or i will get a new one. What can it make it not work?

I'm slightly confused is it stuck on or stuck off?

Most heaters ask to have the heater in the tank for 15 minutes before plugging it into the outlet.

Submergeable heaters usually work better when they're horizontal in the tank rather than vertical. Place it in a high flow area so the water is able to circulate through the tank fully.

^_^

Paul what size tank did you finally get as it might require two heaters the second one is a back up when one fails to work.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

Check the wattage of the heater aswell. You may be using a heater that is too small for the size tank you have. Although last I heard you had a 10 g....
