For a lid, I'd say look through a fabric and crafts store for some netting. Try the wedding aisle, probably can find a small circular piece that would fit over, then just cut a small hole for the bamboo to grow up through. Or, look for some plexiglass at a hardware store, use a thin one and you can cut the size you need with the hole for the bamboo to go through. ^_^ |

If that is so to me with what you have in there substrate and a few rocks I am guessing under 5lt if that. One way to put it correct pour all the water out into a measuring container then into a clean bucket or similar container, then pour it straight back. You will require the exact measurement if you ever have to add any medications guess work will not do for that. Also I cannot remember where I have seen it but I think that plant is not suitable for a container with fish. As far as the bamboo... I think Frank mentioned it a few months back. Bamboo is not a true submerged plant. So it will eventually die, if left completely submerged. Since Rocker23 has it partially submerged in a huge vase, it will probably be okay. As far as the health of the fish with bamboo... I would fair a guess, that it will also do ok. rocker23 Hobbyist Posts: 105 Kudos: 70 Votes: 0 Registered: 23-Jun-2005 | well i think it will be ok, i got this idea from this petstore i visit, the kind of bamboo needs the roots to be submerged into water, i've got more of them atleast 3 feet high in my house in big vases with gravel & partially submerge. I just have no idea if it will have any affect on the fish, i seriously hope not. the tank is 14" tall btw and about 8" wide at the lid |

Given those measurements I would now guess about 7lt -2US gal and would say this is very conservative measurement. I know plenty of fish stores that have micro tanks set up stocked with barbs, corys and other very unsuitable fish. These are tanks that are a few cups in size and have fish that need 20 gallons + of water. Or the stores that sell bettas in a small vase with a peace lilly stuck in the top saying that it's a closed system and you'll never need to feed the fish ! You will learn that most LFS will do whatever it takes to advertise their items or fish to get them into a plastic bag in your hands. It's sad, considering that many people think that if the LFS does it, then it must be right. That's why it's always good to check back here when you see something that might be a good idea. I doubt the betta will take much notice of the bamboo so it should be fine, if it were in a tank with herbivores, they would likely take an interest in it, while they might not eat it outright they could damage it enough that it'd start to rot and cause all sorts of mayhem in the vase. Keep in mind, smaller water volumes are much less steady than larger ones. ^_^ |
