Pick up a scouring pad for algae from your LFS and try that first. If it's not effective, you'll need to use a razor blade. |

The stuff on the decorations could just be regular green algae. When it is thick like that, it can look black. I see you have atleast 4 goldfish in there. What size is the tank? How many fish in all are in the tank and what are they? How much light (watts) is over the tank and how long do you leave them on for? How often do you clean and do water changes? What are your water parameters (ammonia, nitrIte, nitrAte)? With a little more info we can try to help you get rid of the problem that is causing the algae. Many things can cause it...light, fishload, not cleaning/doing water changes enough, overfeeding....the list goes on. Karilyn gave you a good way to clean it. Try to answer the questions and maybe we can help you prevent it. |

That would indicate that you have Blue Green Algae (BGA). It is actually a bacteria and not an algae. Here is a link in which it is descrbed and its elimination is discussed: http://www.otocinclus.com/articles/algae.html Frank -->>> The Confidence of Amateurs, is the Envy of Professionals <<<-- |

Can you scrape it off or is it really hard and flat against the glass? Looks more like when my tanks get severely taken over by brown algae but that is not green and scrapes off easily so very easy to tell the difference. The stuff on the plants and decorations looks more like cyano(BGA). |
