That is used to remove chlorine and chloramine which is added at the water treatment plant. Rain water should be soft, and if it passes through industrial smoke, it will become acidic "acid rain." Depending upon how old the tank is, you may want to rinse it out to get rid of any dirt, leaves, etc. Frank -->>> The Confidence of Amateurs, is the Envy of Professionals <<<-- |

It all depends on your location and even the direction of the rain. The type of roof/spouting/downpipes and how old they are. The tank age, type and what it is made from. Then there is all the general pollution, air, birds ans animals on the roof. Personally I would never use it for a fish tank. Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. Before that we were on town water but used the water tank we had installed for water changes. Had been doing that for about a year, again no real issues. But it does depend on what the quality of water is coming out of the tank. Ours is good enough that we drink right out of the tap (though we do also use a brita filter). ^_^ |
