Looks like it could be a banded barb, but doesnt have enough lines, does look to be in the barb family though based on body type.

When you say "collect" do you mean just go out and collect from the wild?

Hi
I'm beginning to suspect that the fish you have is not
natural to Florida's waterways.

I checked out this site:

http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/fish/southflorida/everglades/Marshes/evergladesfish.html

and did not find it. You might want to try, as was
suggested, a tropical fish encyclopedia, in the barb family.

thanks for the info I did try that and found nothing similar. As stated in the link you post there are a lot more native fish to Florida than stated on that site, I just find it hard to believe I can not find a match with any type of search.

It looks like it may be a juvenile of a larger fish. Perhaps that's why it's being so difficult to identify.

Superlion might have hit the nail on the head with that. I'm sure florida waterways being as temperate and hospitable it's not unheard of to have keepers doing the wrong thing and dumping a load of fry that they can't house in the wild to fend for themselves, wouldn't be all that hard for them to survive and reproduce on their own I'd figure.

The fish in the first post looks a lot like a young Bluefin Killifish, Lucania goodei.
