Wingsdlc Fish Guru What is this? Posts: 2332 Kudos: 799 Registered: 18-Jan-2005 | LF, I know have a total of 9 Dwarf Rainbows in my 40G long. 6M 3F. Some of my males were getting a little on edge with eachother and one seemed to not hang with the rest(runt). Last night i brought home 3 females to see if I could even things out with an odd number plus the females might take the males minds off of eachother... 19G Container Pond [IMG]http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y118/Wingsdlc/Ric |

LITTLE_FISH ***** Little Fish ***** Master of Something Posts: 7303 Kudos: 1997 Votes: 670 Registered: 20-May-2005 | Dan, Thanks for the updates Here are some comments: Overall - may I say Background for the first tank ? The Rainbow tank is very very nice . I like your driftwood very much and it allows you to plant many different species that all would fit in. I think one limiting factor for the plant options could be you sandy substrate. But how about loads of fern, moss, and Anubias on the wood itself? Your male / female ratio seems pretty equally balanced. I am curious to hear from you if you will observe the development of one dominant male who then will claim all the females, or what else might happen. Your link in the Clown Loach tank post links to rocks. You want to create a rock background? Anyway, I agree that the existing one is not all that great . How eavy was that giant rock that you added? Try to get a closeup of a sleeper in it . Do they sleep head in or out? Tank 3 looks very nice. I can't see it - is there a bottom crew in there? If not, how about a bunch of Cories? And yes, I am in favor of a large school (oh what a surprise) . Tank 4 is the most serene and my favorite. Again, maybe a white background would help. Are you making progress on the algae war or is it coming back as fast as you remove it? The closeup of the crypt shows a very happy algae as you can see by all the bubbles it produces. How did you get it off in the end? That's it for now, again - thanks for the update, Ingo |

dan76 Big Fish Always Reading Posts Posts: 343 Registered: 08-Jul-2003 | hi ingo, less than 5 mins after reading your post i went outside and saw two of the younger males sparring , fiesty little buggers .i was also thinking of annubias on the drift wood and more wood. the rock weighs about 20 - 25 kg a bit tricky standing on a ladder to get in the tank but it looks good, the cl always sleep head in and my bn pair has already claimed one of the drilled holes. i was thinking of a school of 30 pygmy cories for tank 3 when i am more financial. i want to make a diy background for t4 but i need some scraps of ducting from work, waiting watching, i have a link somewhere i will find it for you. i used a gravel cleaner hose to get what i could of the bga and then just cut down lights for 2 weeks and put a small powerhead in to increase circulation. if you scroll down the page in the link you come to their backgrounds, i have seen the aqua - 018 and it is exceptional, they are made of some sort of rubber and can be squashed and bent , very easy to get in the tank, if you can imagine the 018 is 4 foot long and the cave sections are pretty big. any way time to back to work, up on the roof in the sun thanks for the interest dan |

LITTLE_FISH ***** Little Fish ***** Master of Something Posts: 7303 Kudos: 1997 Votes: 670 Registered: 20-May-2005 | a slight current coming out of the hole Does that mean that you have the hole open on the other side and a powerhead is blowing water into it? dan76 Big Fish Always Reading Posts Posts: 343 Registered: 08-Jul-2003 | there are small holes and crevices throughout the rock and the other side is under the overflow of the hob filter, plants are doing fine one annubias has 3 flowers, have been doing a bit of overtime lately to get some money for more plants and wood and backgrounds and fish thinking of experimenting with a soil substrate coved with sand to see what happens and of making a 4 ft sump for my 8 ft tank (but thats another thread) also my brother in law has some interesting little fish in the holding tanks at the local water treatment plant http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/threads/27083.1.htm?6# and i think ill set up a 3ft with water from there so i can go catch some. thinking of co2 to help the crypts in tank 4 grow quicker , think its worth it? the electric yellows are starting to move the substrate around(one of my pet hates) so i think they will go back to the lfs and i will get some small schooling fish , any suggestions? |

Personally - Nah. Except if you have the money and don't know what else to do with it. About the yellows, aren't they African Lake fish? And doesn't that mean that your ph is pretty high? Which one of the tanks are they in anyway (you have so many that I always get confused)? Ingo |

LITTLE_FISH ***** Little Fish ***** Master of Something Posts: 7303 Kudos: 1997 Votes: 670 Registered: 20-May-2005 | IMHO, It means that the ph is just fine for the Electric Yellow . As all fish from the two African Lakes (Malawi and Tangania) prefer higher ph than neutral. Malawi fish seem to tolerate lower levels than the Tanganians, but still above 7 or even 7.5. Yellows are from the Malawi lake. Ingo |

LITTLE_FISH ***** Little Fish ***** Master of Something Posts: 7303 Kudos: 1997 Votes: 670 Registered: 20-May-2005 | Have you been drinking while doing this job? That would make it even more amazing than it already is. How did you manage to wiggle this huge thing into the tank when there is the cross bar on top? That must have been a really tight fit . In any way, I think it looks nice. Do you have a vision of blending it in more with the scape, like adding moss to the wall or something? And what was that electric yellow trying to do during the setup - suicide by air breathing? Where was the school of fishies during that time? Nice job, you sure know how to do it Ingo |

Wingsdlc Fish Guru What is this? Posts: 2332 Kudos: 799 Registered: 18-Jan-2005 | I was wondering what was going on with the fish too! It looks pretty nice in your tank and it seems your fish alreay dig it! I like the idea of addint moss to it but I am not sure how one would go about such a thing unless doing it before adding it to the tank. Maybe you can crame some chunks of moss and fern in the cracks? Just an idea. Oh and it looks much much better with the black back. 19G Container Pond [IMG]http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y118/Wingsdlc/Ric |
