Hey guys.

I need some help.

It seems my gouramis NEVER stop eating.

They will eat all of their fl;ake food, then eat my plecos algae wafer, then my clown loaches pellets.

How can I get these guys to stop eating the pleco/ clown loach food??

They are making me really mad, because it doesnt matter how much i feed them - i honostly fed them like half of the can, and they ate all of it, then they go and eat the other fish's food.

I had the same problem with Zebra Danios eating the Cory's and ADF's food. The only way I could get the Danios to leave the food alone, was to case them away from the food. That wasn't the most practical thing to do, so I ended up seperating all of them.

Some people had suggested to me about feeding at night. It might have worked, but I could't tell, it was to dark for me to see the food. If you have some kind of nightlight, then I suggest feeding when you have that on. Hopefully that works for you, but if not other's might have better suggestions.

I'd put the pleco food in after lights out. That should give the pleco a decent shot at it. It works for me with my BN.

my gold barbs do exactly the same thing. sometimes it works for me if I put the bottom feeders found in and then feed the barbs only a few flakes at a time. when they finish the few flakes i put in, i give them a few more so they are diverted from eating the others food....at least for a little while anyways, long enough to be sure the others at least get a little food. It really stinks having greedy fish in the tank!!

I suppose you could call my eight Opalines big eaters too.

I feed the flakes first, then the bottom feeders pellets, then I break up four wafers. There is no way that they can eat all that at one time also it ispread over a two ft area in the front of the tank.

You could also try putting the algae wafers under a piece of wood or in a cave. Just remember to check for left overs and clean them out.

yup i hear u buddy, my guppys do the same thing, my shy cardinals barely get anny and my sinking tablets dont stand a chance, iv evven tried to drop the tablets in the middle of the night, turned on the light after 1/2 and hour for curiosity and the guppies were all over them! ]:|

iv given up on wafers for my plecs, now i just feed them blanched peas, zucchini or lettuce, the guppies dont bother with it as much and there is a larger surface area for more fish to graze on it, not to mention it lasts alot longer then a wafer!

I dont have any caves in my tank.

And wherever i put it, the pleco will move it out in the open, and the gouramis start eating it while the pleco is trying to eat it.

When my pleco gets a little bigger, this will stop happening (since my plecs mouth cant cover the entire wafer)

Also, when my pleco gets the wafer (finally) he will chase anyting that tries to steal it from him.

Fish are opportunistic feeders, they never know where their next meal is coming from, so if there is food around they'll munch it. I'd suggest just feeding flakes until they slow down (they'll get full, trust me) and then pop your wafers in.

my gouramis never eat too much of the flake or pellets, and the rasboras in there have plenty, but they do spend time on the botton grabbing uneaten pellets or flakes. I was hoping they were after algae, but i don't think thats it.

the sad thing is is that my gouramis eat ALL of the flake, and are then constantly looking for more.
