i have a new tank that is 29.5x16x12 and i was just wondering how many gallons is it?

24.5 gallons given 231 cubic inches to the gallon.

Remember that is an empty tank by the time you add all the bits and pieces it will be far less. The only way to test it then is to measure the water as you add it. You will get a big supprise at the difference. This measurement is the one when doing all your calculations for fish etc.
