I have a 55g tank with 2 aquatech 200 canister filters, a 300 w heater and tank temp is 82-84 degress. 2 weeks ago I took my water to LFS to get it tested and was told to do a 25% water change and It would be good to go. My Stock 6 Blue Firetail Tetra ( were the fish I put in to cycle) 2 Sunburst Sailfin mollies 3 Black Mollies 3 Red Mollies 6 Platys 3 Swordtails 1 pleco The day I did the water change I found one lone Tetra fry in my tank, before I started the wc. was very careful but only had the one fry survive We named him lucky. the day after I put my other fish in my sailfin had fry (33 in a seperate tank now) the next day one of my black mollies gove birth (50+ fry) and one of my swords did too (50+) got tired of trying to count. I also believe I have anothe black mollie and 3 platy's that are going to fry soon bellies are extra large. all fry are in seperate tanks had to buy 3 20g from walmart at 1 am with sponge filters Warm Body (hers) Heartbeat (mine) and a cup off coffee, Live dont get much better |

You may want to leave the fry in the tank to serve as food for some of the other fish (population control). I would turn the heater down a bit so that the temperature in the tank sits between 76 and 78 Degrees. Temperatures in the 80s are a bit too high and can stress the fish making them susceptible to disease and infection. -->>> The Confidence of Amateurs, is the Envy of Professionals <<<-- |

With all those fry it will not be long before you will be a long way over stocked be careful as this can creep up rather quickly and being a new comer you will not want to part with the fish you have raised. I personally would increase the water change to a minimum of 30%-35% weekly. Not knowing that filter but it will require regular cleaning I do my big Eheim monthly. Remember to wash all the filter material in the tank water you have just taken out other wise you will kill all your good bacteria. There is bound to be plenty of questions please ask also remember there is no such thing as a dumb question we all had to start off some where. Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do.
