Hello Ladies and gents,
I am new here and have a question. I have a tank that measures 35" wide, 9" deep, 14" high. My question is: what the formula to figure out how many gallons it is? Thank in advance for the info.

Your Tank Capacity:
Litres: 72.3
US Gal: 19.1
UK Gal: 15.9

Horace welcome to FP In the FishProfiles banner there is Interactive and this will do it automatically for you. Also notice the international difference in the Gal

To calculate the formula I found is
to Multiply, Length X Width X Height in inches then divide by 277.

That measurement is a full water capacity only. To the correct water water capacity (this is extremely important for stocking, medications, & feeding plants) You will have to measure the water as you put it into the tank.
Too many work on the tank size not the actual water capacity.
The substrate, driftwood and any thing else that goes into the tank takes up space which means less water. Also a tank is never filled to the very top.

My small Cardinal tank is a 45lt but when every thing is in the tank it becomes a 38lt.

Hi,
A "trick" I use on my tanks is to add the gravel
to the desired depth, and then I fill it to the 1/2
way point. Take a waterproof felt tip pen and on the
outside, side of the tank on the back corner, I put
a little tick mark.
Add a gallon and another tick mark, and so on until
the tank is filled the rest of the way. I then mark
the tick marks starting from the top down, 1, 2, 3,
etc. When I want to remove, say 3 gallons, I simply
siphon down to the 3 and I'm done.

Frank what I have done in the 5ft tank when it was full I took out 45lt (that is my change over) then I stuck on a thermometer where I could see it easily. The top of the thermometer became the level. I know they are not the most accurate but mine is always basically the same as two floating thermometers.

For the 45lt I did the same thing that time I took out 15lt this time I cut out a 2mm x 2mm yellow sticky label and that became my level to take out the water.

Seems like a waste of time being that accurate. If I'm doing water changes I just throw the hose in, suck on the other end, throw it out the door then wander off and do something else.

Come back a bit later, "Let's see if it's WOAH! Way too much!" and then quickly fill it back up so the fish can float upright again...

Because of my local water problems I have to store it for a week that is one of the main reasons I always take out the same amount.

With the 45lt it has a HOB filter and the tank evaporates 1Lt-1.5Lt over the week and to keep the level up I have a 1.5lt container of stored water ready to top up.
